The first principle of our activity - as outlined in our mission statement - is to gather and share the stories of those with direct experience of homelessness. Bones, who has agreed to be our first Kanndoo Ambassador, has shared some of his experiences with us.

Bones has been homeless twice, first as a young man when the choice of a life on the streets seemed to offer some freedom. And also later in life when circumstances led to himself and his two sons being put up in unsuitable temporary accommodation. He’s led a varied life, struggled with addiction and been in prison. He talks movingly and articulately about his experiences. And he is full of ideas for how our apps could be used to improve life for people who are homeless.

Watch the full interview on our YouTube channel.

Bones has taken on the role of Kanndoo Ambassador and he will be assisting our team in gathering stories of life on the street that we will use as a basis for developing apps that meet the genuine needs of homeless people. We want to avoid the trap of thinking we know what’s best and instead actually listen to what people are asking for and provide it.

We’re all learning as we go at Kanndoo. And we have already filmed a second interview with Bones that we will be sharing soon. Subscribe to our YouTube channel and follow us on social media to hear more real life experiences of homeless people. And if you have a story you’d like to share - contact us on 01603 971590 or email enquiries@kanndoo.org
